What do you want to be when you grow up? You’ve probably been asked this question more times than you can count, and I found my research on girls’ answers to this question really interesting. The top three answers that girls give to this question are doctor, teacher, and scientist, according to numerous studies online. These are all great professions without a doubt, but where are business-owner, marketing specialist, or accountant on the list of answers? Hopefully, reading on to the five reasons I’ve compiled below that girls should actively think about studying or working in the business field can help you consider changing your answer, and take the leap towards deciding a future in business!

1. You always hear about the disproportionate ratio of women to men in STEM fields, but the ratio of high-ranking women executives is also a pressing concern! In fact, according to CNN only 7.4% of Fortune 500 companies have women as Chief Executive Officers.

2. Enrolling in business school gives you the opportunity to gain great leadership skills and confidence. Even if you don’t continue on to a career in business post-school, these qualities will help you no matter where you go.

3. Being an entrepreneur and starting your own business is one of the most flexible career paths because you can create a business based off of your passions. You also get to be your own boss!

4. Statistically, women show a greater grasp of prized soft skills, such as emotional intelligence, teamworking skills, and good communication, than men. In the corporate field, soft skills are highly sought after and women can act as a great source.

5. Studying business in college is one of the most versatile college majors because you can pursue many different career paths once you graduate. You can work in administration for any industry from healthcare, to food, to retail. The possibilities really are endless with a business background, which we will continue to show you in following blog posts.
